Essentially a cluster of 300 islands reclaimed from the sea in the shape of the world, The World, Dubai is an offshore project by Nakheel superseding common comprehension. When complete, the islets of The World will function as private dwellings, estate homes, dream resorts & community islands of the rich and the famous. The first phase of this mammoth project involving land reclamation is on track to be completed by the end of 2008.
The Location
Encircled by an oval breakwater, The World, Dubai covers a total area of 931 hectares (9 km in length & 6 km in width), and is set to extend Dubai's coastline by an additional 232 kilometres of beachfront. The island group is just 4 kilometres off Jumeirah, close to the man-made marvel, Palm Jumeirah. Lying 25°13 north; 55°10 east the Dh6.6 billion project is sandwiched between Burj Dubai & Port Rashid.
